Exercise Equipment

If you're not sure about a gym equip yourself for a home workout…

If you're serious about an anti-aging routine it's likely that you'll want to stock up on at least one item of exercise equipment.  Not everybody has the time or inclination to visit a gym, and even those of us that do often find that we'd prefer to combine such visits with a home exercise routine.

If you plan to exercise solely from home, it's well worth joining an online exercise program so you can get support and help with your routines and the equipment you need to do them.  If you already have some equipment, a good online exercise program should build you a personal exercise plan based on the exercise equipment you have available. Your progress will be monitored and exercises modified depending on your requirements at the time.

Why it's important to create your own personal workout space..

Whether you go to the gym or not or whether you use a personal online program - it is important to have somewhere in your house that is your own exercise space which can either be used in conjuntion with visits to the gym or on it own as an alternative.

Having a place to go where you feel comfortable and relaxed and where you can practise your routines in private as long as you wish is vital to your success.  If you don't feel comfortable or you are going to be interrupted - or if the equipment needs to be continually removed and stored - you may find yourself less keen to start exercising each day.

A personal, private and comfortable space - on the other hand - will be a positive incentive to exercise.

Keep your home exercise space simple…

Whether you want large exercise machines or a simple exercise ball, once you've decided on your needs, you'll find it relatively easy to purchase the right kind of home exercise equipment either online or at the shops.

If you are just starting out the best approach is keep it simple and don't spend much money.  An uncluttered space is much better than a home full of complicated machinery covered in dust from lack of use.

Home equipment basics - it all depends on the type of exercise you do..

Home exercise equipment is available in all price classes, depending on your requirements.

One relatively inexpensive but extremely useful piece of home exercise equipment is the exercise ball. It's also extremely handy for those of us who don't have lots of space for our home exercise routines.

Exercise balls are used to target groups of muscles - especially the core muscles.  Core exercise targeting the abdominal muscles, upper body workouts, and back strengthening exercises are all possible when you include an exercise ball workout in your regime.

Make sure you take some form of cardio exercise besides using the exercise ball, though, as there's no way of using the ball to target the cardiovascular system.

One piece of home exercise equipment that offers excellent cardiovascular exercise is the exercise bike.  Another is the simple skipping rope, something everybody can afford and has room for.

When it comes to resistance and strength training, dumbell training is possibly the best choice available for home exercise as, again, dumbells take little room and are relatively inexpensive. Dumbell training can also be incorporated into your cardio exercise routine.

A good mat is absolutely essential..

If you plan to undertake any kind of floor or aerobic exercises for added strength and mobility—and most of us do—one piece of home exercise equipment that you'll definitely need is an exercise mat. Constructed from comfortable, non-slip PVC foam, exercise mats serve two purposes. One is to absorb impact during aerobic exercise, the other is to provide a comfortable surface on which to undertake floor exercise.

How thick your exercise mat should be will depend entirely on your intended use: a yoga or pilates mat will be thinner than a mat needed to help protect joint damage through aerobic impact. Your exercise mat can also be used as a non-slip base for exercise machines.

Remember that when starting out on any new exercise routine, it's important that you start off gently, working within your personal comfort zone, and that you maintain regular breathing throughout the exercise in order to transfer oxygen to your muscles.

Although we all want to slow the aging process as much as possible, if you're in any doubt whatsoever as to your ability to use certain kinds of home exercise equipment, whether it's an exercise ball, an exercise machine or weights for dumbell training, always consult your GP first.
